The aftermath of a fire can be chaotic and dangerous. Prioritize safety and follow these crucial steps if your Elkhart, TX property has fire damage, then call Leading Remediation:

  • 1. Ensure Personal Safety First: Only re-enter the building when fire officials declare it safe. Be aware of structural instability, electrical hazards, and slip/trip risks. Do not turn on utilities unless cleared by professionals.
  • 2. Contact Your Insurance Company: Notify your insurer immediately to start the claims process. Take photos and videos of the damage before moving or cleaning anything (if safe to do so) for documentation.
  • 3. Secure the Property: Fire damage often leaves homes vulnerable. Leading Remediation provides emergency board-up of windows/doors and roof tarping to protect against weather and unauthorized entry in Elkhart, TX.
  • 4. Limit Soot and Smoke Damage Spread: Avoid touching surfaces with bare hands, as oils can set soot. Cover clean upholstery or carpets if you must walk through affected areas. Change HVAC filters if the system was running during the fire.
  • 5. Begin Professional Smoke and Soot Removal: Soot is acidic and can cause further damage if not removed correctly. Leading Remediation uses specialized techniques and cleaning agents for different materials. This is not a DIY job.
  • 6. Address Water Damage (from Firefighting): Water used to extinguish the fire can cause significant secondary damage and lead to mold growth within 24-48 hours, especially in Elkhart, TX's climate. Professional water extraction and drying by Leading Remediation are essential.
  • 7. Content Cleaning and Restoration: Determine what belongings can be salvaged. Leading Remediation offers pack-out services (moving items to a secure facility for cleaning) and specialized cleaning for clothes, furniture, electronics, and documents affected by smoke and soot.

Elkhart, TX Insights: Population,
Zip Codes, Influence, and Service Areas

The history of Elkhart starts with Daniel Parker's Pilgrim Predestinarian Baptist Church. It was formed in Crawford County, Illinois in 1833, because the government of Mexico would not allow the Baptist church's organization within their borders. Daniel, and his father John Parker, led their congregation to Texas, settling in Austin's Colony in 1834. While John Parker's group settled and established Fort Parker (Limestone County), Daniel's group settled first in the territory that became Grimes County and later moved to the area around Fort Houston (Anderson County). Daniel Parker spent his time traveling and preaching in the homes of his scattered congregation. In 1836, the threats of General Santa Anna's troops in April 1836, and the attack of Fort Parker in May 1836 sent the remnant of John Parker's group to seek protection near Fort Houston. The Pilgrim Church resumed meetings in February 1837, and resolved in 1839 to build a church house, selecting 2.5 acres "on the north side of the bluff of the Harrison Fork of Bayou Blue near Daniel Parker's house". They constructed a log house and cleared a burial ground where Daniel Parker was buried in 1844. The church, now called Old Pilgrim Church, which has been replaced several times since the first log house, was the center of the community called Parker's Settlement, or just Pilgrim.
